Why am I so obsessed with Emanuel Ungaro’s Vintage Pieces?

I’ll have to start with its beginnings. The House Emanuel Ungaro began in 1965 with its founder Emanuel Ungaro, who moved to Paris at the age of 22 to work in fashion and exploit his incredible creativity and talent.

He worked alongside the Spanish designer, Cristobal Balenciaga and Courrèges.

Working with two of the top French designers at that time, he learned about perfect tailoring, couture and flawless construction of clothing.

I’m sure that back then he couldn’t imagine that great designers such as Giambattista Balli would work for him later on.

Giambattista Valli in an interview in Vogue said about Ungaro:

He was one of the big masters of haute couture, with a very personal kind of universe…. We worked in parallel a lot, he on the haute couture, and me on the ready-to-wear. For seven years I learned a lot from him. He was not listening to critics, just his own dreams and obsessions.

It can’t get any more authentic than this.

He has served as an example for contemporary designers such as Dolce&Gabbana and Moschino, to name but a few.

His collections were featured in all the most important fashion magazines of that era such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, Cosmopolitan, L’Officiel, etc.

His designs were dressed by stars and personalities like Mia Farrow, Iman, Nicole Kidman, Cher, plus an endless list of well known names.

Bright colors, prints and draping became his trademark. Pieces full of personality that have not only survived in perfect condition through the years but have increased its value for Vintage collectors.
